'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the thrilling final moments of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses after the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative effort from outside the box, and his teammate promptly converted the deflection before charging toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with the crowd swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

This completed an unbelievable comeback given Swansea had been behind 2-0 deep into the latter period. During the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result secured a next round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's volley from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right wing-back after the team changed shape. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the opposition who complimented the way the underdogs played positively.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they know how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can believe you're doing well and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and focus just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has swiftly replicated that in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at fourth-tier the Manchester club, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without much intensity. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has shown that maturation for club and country, shining for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including two matches encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

It has been an incredible journey for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his parent, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they played on an plastic turf and the arena covering was shut owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he comments, smiling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved quite easy, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to socialize with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would blend in with fans on the Tube after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
